The House

When we arrived at the house, it was filled with rotten eggs and sewer gas.

Step 1 – We first checked for any sewer pipes that were cracked, uncapped or disconnected. All sewer lines were replaced with new ABS pipes and fittings.

Then, we did a smoke test. Nothing showed up to indicate that there was a leak in the entire system.

Step 2 – We checked the basement’s gas lines. We use gas sniffing equipment to verify that there are no gas leaks. However, we recommend soap and water for all proximity gas joints. If bubbles become large, it is a sign of a gas leak.

We confirmed and verified that there was no gas leak.

Step 3 – Next, we inspected every inch of basement concrete flooring. What we found was incredible!

It was a strong smell that rose from the concrete floor, in a 12-inch by 12-inch area.

Then, we set up air filter scrubbers and prepared the area for excavation.

We dug down to 4ft and found 2 important things.

1 – Table water

2 – The soil smells like rotten eggs

This was a dangerous environment that we knew had to be dealt with. We used creative techniques to get outside the house and not try to mask it.

Basement Rotten Egg Solution

Step 1: Backfill the hole with 3/4 to 1″ rocks. End the process by leaving approximately 4 inches of concrete for filling.

Step 2: Install a 3-inch cast iron floor sink and turn it upside down.

Step 3 – Pour concrete around the floor sink base, seal the floor with 2500 psi concrete.

Allow this to cure for five hours before moving on to step 4.

Step 4: Install 3-inch ABS pipe and fittings from floor sink pipe stub. End it to the outside. You can vent this using an inline fan motor. This will draw the odor outside.

This type of work costs anywhere from $1,500.00 up to $6,500.00
