The team from Mobato Limited reached out to me a few weeks back with a request for us to check out their latest BlackBerry application, Web Toolbar. I took a look at the app and though it was a brilliant addition to the BlackBerry platform and one that our readers needed to hear about. I’ve been using Web Toolbar for a few weeks and I have nothing but good things to say about this application. If you’re looking for a powerful add-on for searching the web on your BlackBerry, you’ll definitely want to read on past the break for our full review of Web Toolbar from Mobato Limited.

Searching with Web Toolbar

Web Toolbar is a very basic app but adds tons of functionality to your BlackBerry. There’s only one screen within the app and all the functions are accessed from here. The function of Web Toolbar is to make searching the web on your BlackBerry easier. With Web Toolbar, you get the option to perform 15 different search types across 12 different websites. Here’s a list of all the different searches you can perform:

  • Google Search
  • Google Image Search
  • Google Maps Search
  • Bing Search
  • Bing Image Search
  • Bing Weather Search
  • Yahoo Search
  • Flickr Search
  • LinkedIn Search
  • Wikipedia Search
  • IMDB Search
  • Twitter Search
  • Google Translate
  • YouTube Search
  • Facebook Search

Using Web Toolbar for searching is incredibly simple. Just enter your search term in the text box and then click on the search type you want to perform. For example, if you want to find TheBerryFix homepage, just type in “theberryfix” and click “Google.” The app will automatically launch the web browser and search for TheBerryFix in Google. It works this way for all the searches. You can find photos on Flickr, friends on Facebook, and even tweets on Twitter.

Universal Search Integration

Not only does Web Toolbar work great from its home screen icon, but it also integrates directly with Universal Search in the BlackBerry OS. To utilize this feature in Web Toolbar, all you have to do is type and click. You type your search term into the universal search box and then click on the Web Toolbar icon that shows up in your Universal Search options. This takes you directly into the Web Toolbar app and allows you to select your search type. This option is great for people who utilize Universal Search and/or don’t want to put another icon on their home screen. You can just type and access Web Toolbar.

Conclusions

After using Web Toolbar for a few weeks, I have found it to be an invaluable tool for searching for things with my BlackBerry. Whether it’s Google searching for an image for a post or some information on IMDB about a new movie, Web Toolbar makes it all easier. I highly recommend this add-on for everyone that searches the web on their BlackBerry. Mobato offers a 7-day, free trial of Web Toolbar, which you can download from the first link below. The full version of the app is $1.99 and can be purchased directly inside the free version or by using the second link below. We recommend giving the free trial a shot and if you love the app (I think you will), upgrade to the paid version.
