YouMail Suspends BlackBerry App Development, Posts Final App Update
7:16 pm on Apr 16, 2012 | Leave a comment

Over the weekend, YouMail posted on the company blog two things regarding their BlackBerry application. First, the app has just been updated and a few changes made. These changes include a totally redesigned UI, no more ads in the free version, and caller “ditching” ability. The app update is great news, but what follows in the post is a huge blow for BlackBerry users.
YouMail has announced they are suspending further work on their BlackBerry application. They cited the huge decline in BlackBerry users who are moving to iOS or Android, and in most cases, sticking with YouMail through the transfer. Due to this huge decline is use, they have decided to indefinitely suspend work on the BlackBerry app. They aren’t throwing in the towel forever, though. They state that if BlackBerry does make a triumphant resurgence with BlackBerry 10 that they will be back in the saddle on the platform.
The above graph was provided by YouMail in the blog post. It shows the huge decline in BlackBerry users between January 2011 and now. It seems to fit well with the overall sentiment towards the brand at the current time. Losing YouMail is definitely a huge loss for the platform. They have been on BlackBerry for many years and a majority of BlackBerry users use the service. If you want to keep YouMail, you can hit the link below for their final BlackBerry app release.

We’ve heard from YouMail in the past and I’m sure this won’t be the last as their application continues to grow in the BlackBerry community. The team from YouMail recently launched a new service for their BlackBerry application that uses the popular service, Social Graph, to give you as much information as possible about the people calling you. The new service will allow YouMail to provide you with the name, city, and even a photo of the people calling or messaging you, even if you don’t have them in your contacst book. The newly updated application is available for download from BlackBerry App World for free and is available on most US carriers.

YouMail for BlackBerry v2.3.4 update brings new features
4:23 pm on Jun 9, 2011 | Leave a comment

YouMail is a visual voicemail app for the BlackBerry Smartphone. Prior to the 2.3.4 update, the app ran smooth and brought great visual voicemail to the BlackBerry. With this update, YouMail is now faster, smoother, and includes some new features. The two new big features are:
- Number Search Available In-App. It’s YouMail’s belief that once you receive a call from an unwanted number, you should never have to receive a call from that number again. In this latest update, YouMail’s Caller Search lets you quickly do a Google search right from the “menu” key, so you’ll know the real story behind any phone number you’re not familiar with.
- One-Touch Community Greetings and Management. A new navigation bar lets you easily access greeting settings, like what greetings play for your callers, and how you want to handle “blocked” numbers. In addition, the YouMail greetings community, with tens of thousands of greetings, is just a few clicks away from within the app itself. Now, President Obama can select a greeting for his beloved Blackberry that sounds just like him without even having to record one!
Whether you’re an avid YouMail user or have never used it before, you should grab the update to v2.3.4. Visual voicemail is great for businesspersons, students, and even soccer moms. You can get YouMail in App World for Free. The free version contains ads and you can upgrade to an ad-free version starting at just $1.99. YouMail sent out a Press Release regarding the update which you can find after the break.
