WES 2010: Mike Lazaridis Keynote Speech to Analysts Includes Details on OS 6.0, Webkit, and More
4:53 pm on Apr 26, 2010 | Leave a comment

Today, RIM founder and co-CEO, Mike Lazaridis, delivered a keynote speech to Industry Analysts. In his speech he covered the 2 hottest topics in the mind of BlackBerry users; OS 6.0 and the Webkit browser. He didn’t go into too much detail, but here is what we know so far:
OS 6.0 – The next Blackberry OS will be called “Blackberry 6.” It will be coming out in the 3rd quarter of 2010. OS 6 will be available on both touch and non-touch devices and will be backwards compatible with as many devices as possible (memory and processing restrictions will limit some device compatibility.)
WebKit - The WebKit browser will be packaged directly with OS 6.0. It will not run on OS 5.0. And to clarify, Mike stated that the browser is build on a WebKit rendering engine, so this rendering engine will be available to be utilized by other applications and on other areas of the BlackBerry.
Those are the high points of Mike’s speech today. While details are limited, it is exciting to hear some official confirmation of “Blackberry 6.” We hope to have more details tomorrow and Wednesday during the main sessions and keynotes on those days. Keep your browsers pointed to TheBerryFix.com for all the latest coverage of WES 2010.

WES 2010: Telus and Rogers Announce The BlackBerry Pearl 9100
10:37 am on Apr 26, 2010 | Leave a comment

Hot off the trail of RIM’s 9100 announcement Canadian Carriers Rogers and Telus have issued a press release stating they will indeed be carrying the new 3G Pearl. Telus stated that the new BlackBerry will run you a nice $29.99 on a 3 year voice and data plan. There isn’t much news from Rogers on their pricing, but with the wireless sector heating up in Canada, I wouldn’t see why they won’t offer it for the same price as Telus. We have recived the Telus press release and its after the break.
