Verizon Wireless CMO Tami Erwin has confirmed in an interview with CNET that they will be supporting BlackBerry 10. The interview was centered around Verizon’s launching of multiple Windows Phones, but BlackBerry 10 came up when they began discussing who the third major player in the smartphone game. We all know that Windows Phone is outselling BlackBerry and sitting comfortably in that 3rd spot right now, but with the launch of BlackBerry 10, that could change.
In addition to the confirmation, she went on to say that the launch is scheduled for Q1 2013 and that Verizon will be launching BlackBerry 10 alongside many other international carriers. That was all the information given; however, that’s all the confirmation BlackBerry users on Verizon need right now. This statement also makes Verizon the first and only carrier to pledge support for BlackBerry 10.

Whoops! For a brief moment, the Playbook App World had a new Tab in its line up reading “Verizon Wireless Store”, if you were able to click it nothing would happen except of course for widespread internet speculation! That being said there has been recent chatter that 3G and/or 4G models of the Playbook have gone into carrier testing, it would certainly appear so with Verizon being the first to give us a test of what is to come. Should be an interesting next few months!

Every time that we see congress place more regulations on industry and limit fees and charges, the carriers and providers find a new loophole and create new fees. This time it’s Verizon Wireless that’s adding the new fee to their customers’ bills. Beginning January 15, 2012, Verizon users who pay their bill online or by phone will be charged a $2 “Convenience Fee” for using the service. Customers who use Verizon auto-pay or make payments in store will not be charged this fee. So, if you have a Berry, or any other device, on Verizon, will you be paying the fee or will you start stopping by the Verizon store when it’s time to make your monthly payment?

There was already basically zero doubt that the BlackBerry Bold 9930 would be coming to Verizon. With the Verizon CMO stating that they would be adding 3 devices this year and the fact that RIM had announced there would be a CDMA variant in the Bold Touch family, we all knew that Verizon would launch the device. Now it seems that we have even more proof that the Bold 9930 is coming to Big Red. The above photo was sent in to our friends over at N4BB showing a 9930 booting up with a Verizon splash screen. While that’s not necessarily 100% confirmation that the device will be launching, it’s pretty safe to say that we will be seeing the Bold 9930 on Verizon sometime this year. There’s one more image of the 9930 with the Verizon splash screen featured after the break.

The team over at BerryScoop has a photo of what is said to be a Verizon internal memo stating that the 9650 will be available for direct fulfillment on June 3rd and will be in store on June 10th. In this case, direct fulfillment would mean internet sales. Take a look at the pic and see for yourself what you think of the launch dates here. This date seems to fit well with the rumors and the Verizon employee training manual photos that have been circulating. Keep it here at TheBerryFix.com for all the latest on the BlackBerry Bold 9650 news.
Verizon Wireless has released an application in partnership with the NFL called NFL Mobile. This app will provide the user with stats, scores, and news throughout the NFL season. The app is available to download free from the Verizonwireless.com/nfl. But this is not the big news. The big news is that in the announcement lists the capable devices for this app. And the Blackberry Bold 9650 is on that list of devices. This means that the Bold 9650 is due out very soon from VZW and will in fact be named, the Bold 9650. We’ll be updating you with an official release date as soon as we get some more information.

The long awaited Skype Mobile app for Verizon Wireless customers is now available for download. The app has a simple and easy-to-use interface. The main screen shows all of your Skype contacts. When you click on a contact you have the option to call or instant message that contact. I have not had the chance to try out any calls yet, but since it uses Verizon’s network to make the calls, one can assume the call quality will be the same as voice calls on VZW. If you are on VZW check out the app and leave feedback in the comments.
