Theres no doubt about it that RIM and security go hand in hand. Just a few months ago the BlackBerry PlayBook received FIPS (Federal Information Processing Standard) certification and today RIM has let us know that their new BlackBerry 7 operating system, that is currently found on 4 new BlackBerry smartphones, have been awarded common criteria EAL4+ certification. The EAL4+ certification continues to build upon on RIM mission to stay the industry leader in mobile security.
“Security is one of the most important considerations for enterprise customers and we are proud that BlackBerry 7 OS has earned this rigorous certification,” said Scott Totzke, Senior Vice President, BlackBerry Security at RIM. “RIM is renowned as a market leader in the delivery of secure mobile solutions, and this achievement helps to provide our customers globally with continued confidence in deploying BlackBerry solutions throughout their organizations.”
If you’re interested in reading the full Press Release you can find it after the break, it’ll give you a better inside into just why your movement probably relies on RIM and their services.

WiFi Hotspot still on the roadmap for BlackBerry 7 devices
2:18 pm on Sep 13, 2011 | Leave a comment

If you recall back to the early leaked documents regarding what features would ship on the new BlackBerrys, you’ll probably remember the WiFi Hotspot feature that was listed. Well, the launch of the new devices has come and gone without this feature, so where is it you ask? There’s been a lot of talk about it being included into the OS update 7.1, which will bring a lot of improvements and new features.
But the biggest questions is just when will this update be making its way onto our devices, and the answer is soon. An internal document from Sprint has stated that WiFi Hotspot is indeed coming to the new BlackBerry devices soon. Apparently some of the new BlackBerrys actually listed on the box that they support the feature, but Sprint is acting quick and letting customers know that yes, the device is hotspot capable, but it isn’t implemented just yet. So I guess there we have it, hotspot is still on the roadmap, but we’ll just have to wait a little longer.

RIM to announce Q2 Fiscal 2012 results on Sept. 15th at 5pm est
2:31 pm on Sep 8, 2011 | Leave a comment

If you’ve been following RIM close enough then I’m sure you have witnessed their stock drop to a low of $21 and then bounce up to its current rate at the time of this post which is $31.27. The majority of the decrease in stock price occurred after their Q1 earnings call earlier this year, and RIM is about to announce their Q2 results later this month.
On September 15 th 2011 at 5pm Eastern Time, Research In Motion will announce their earnings for their second quarter of fiscal 2012. I’ll be the first to say that I really have no idea how the numbers will be. Yes, we’ve seen an increase of PlayBook sales and retailers are selling out of the new BlackBerry 7 line up, but sadly BlackBerry 7 devices won’t be included in this earnings call. I’m curious to hear what the BlackBerry community has to say. We’re a strong community, let your voice be heard!

RIMs Andrew Bocking walks us through BlackBerry 7 on the Torch 9860

To view this video on your BlackBerry, Click Here.
Yesterday we were live on location at RIMs BlackBerry 7 Fan Night in Toronto and we had the chance to sit down and talk to Andrew Bocking, VP of handheld software at Research In Motion.
During our time with Andrew he gave us a full run down of BlackBerry 7 on the all new BlackBerry Torch 9860. Honestly, I could sit here for days and tell you how fluid these liquid graphics are and how awesome the Open GL gaming is, but why write about it when the only way to experience it is to see it. Make sure you take a look at the video above and see for yourself.

BlackBerry.com website gets redesigned to showcase BlackBerry 7 devices

Looking to dig into those new BlackBerrys even before they come out? Well, RIM knew you would and updated BlackBerry.com to give you the chance to explore and learn about the new phones before they hit the market later this month. The new page will allow you to view photos of the new devices and see a video walk-through. I must admit I’m liking the new Torch 9850/9860, though the Bold Touch wil probably be my daily driver I’m sure.
Thanks @ErikDue for the tip!
