With the release of the PlayBook only 3 days behind us application development is in full force. Poynt for the PlayBook has been updated to version 1.0.5 bringing a few new features. Since RIM has yet to let developers use the GPS chip in the PlayBook they are relying on a wifi connection to pull down your location, but what if there is no wifi and you’re tethering your berry? Well, you don’t get location data. In this recent update Poynt has added the ability to manually enter your location when the PlayBook is unable to provide it.
Along with the location update there are a few minor updates like multi tasking support and speed improvements. What’s your favorite PlayBook application so far? Let us know so we can feature it on the blogs.
We’ve seen tones of photos of Poynt for the PlayBook but not one video. Today I’m going to take a quick look at Poynt on the BlackBerry PlayBook which, is available in App World. If you haven’t used Poynt before let me give you a little break down. Poynt is a location-based application for BlackBerry that gives you up to date information on movies, gas prices, restaurants and more, even allowing you to book a reservation at your favourite place to eat. Over the past few weeks things have been heating up with applications for the PlayBook popping up left right and centre. Last week I took the time to chat with the team over at Poynt to get the inside scoop on the development of Poynt for the BlackBerry PlayBook, and they had some good things to say.
First off, Poynt is scheduled to launch with the Playbook in the first quarter of 2011 which means you’ll be able to book your dinner reservations and bring your PlayBook with you…to show off to your friends of course. The second thing is that Poynts user-base has grown substantially reaching out to over 5 million users across three platforms, with BlackBerry being the biggest.
As we work on getting more Poynt PlayBook details let your self feast on the newest, highest resolution images on the net! Hit up the break for the images.

Poynt has released an update of their popular BlackBerry application to version 18.104.22.168. There aren’t many changes in this release other than the GPS fix for BlackBerry OS 5. Before this new update, many users of Poynt on BlackBerry OS 5, including me, were getting the “GPS Not Supported” error and the app was falling back to using the cellular tower location method. I’m happy to report that the bug has been fixed in this release, at least on my OS 5 BlackBerry. If you’re a Poynt user, or you want to be a Poynt user, head on over to App World using the link below to download the update.

Poynt is a great location app that lets you search for things like businesses, restaurants, and movie times near you. Poynt uses your built-in GPS or your cellular site location to determine where you are and to “poynt” you to where you want to be. The new feature that Poynt has just added is local event search. This new feature allows you to search for any event around you. This includes things like concerts, sporting events, book signings, anything that is considered an event. You can search for these things using criteria such as venue, performer, category, or date. You can get the updated version of Poynt from the link below.
