How does a BlackBerry PlayBook-powered car sound? Well, after watching the video above, I think you’ll not only agree that it sounds like a good idea, but that it’s an awesome way to drive! This video shows off a Porsche 911 that RIM has loaded down with BlackBerry technology. From PlayBooks in the dash and headrests to instant NFC cell phone pairing, RIM has put all the latest and greatest technology into this vehicle. There are tons of goodies in this car and you’ll want to check out the video to see it all. While this technology is only proof of concept right now, we could see this sort of technology coming you our vehicles sometime in the near future. Let us know if you want this in your car!

The last bit of information that we get from the plethora of leaked slides this morning is about the BlackBerry “Knight.” This device is the Porsche Design BlackBerry P’9531 and it looks to be nearly identical to the P’9981 that has already launched around the world. The P’9531 looks to be a North American version for the exclusive Porsche Design line and we could see it launching on any of the North American networks between March and May this year. Hit the break for some more details on the P’9531.

We had suspected that the Porsche Design BlackBerry P’9981 would hit the US sometime in January or February, and with this latest find, that’s shaping up to be true. The FCC has gotten ahold of the new Porsche Design BlackBerry and given it the full FCC certification treatment. There’s not much to see in this filing besides the pretty shot above of the internals; however, if you’re interested in all the technical information, you can hit the link below to check out the full FCC filing on the P’9981.

RIM wins “Best of CES” Award for QNX Mobile App Platform
8:48 pm on Jan 12, 2012 | Leave a comment

CNET always runs a feature called the “Best of CES” and they feature the top tech in multiple categories. This year’s winner for “Car Tech” is none other than RIM’s own, QNX Software Systems. The award goes out to QNX for the new mobile app platform they have created for use in vehicles. The QNX CAR 2 Operating Systems integrates with the controls of the vehicle and gives the driver and passenger an immersive experience complete with touch screens in the front and PlayBook tablets in the rear. RIM was showing the new system off in a Porsche Carrera at CES; however, we’re pretty sure most of our readers are hoping RIM brings this technology to vehicles that are a little more affordable. Hit the link below to see the award and more info on QNX CAR 2.

Porsche designed BlackBerry 9980 to be revealed October 27
11:42 am on Oct 20, 2011 | Leave a comment

We saw images of the BlackBerry Bold “Knight” 9980 a few weeks back and the majority of the BlackBerry community dismissed it as either a fake or a 3rd party redressing of the Bold 9900. New information has come to light that suggests the phone is a reality and that Porsche and BlackBerry will be holding a joint unveiling on October 27th. The unveiling will be hosted in Dubai and we can then all take a look at what will either be a huge RIM success, or more likely, a huge failure.
