**Update: Due to some issues with the Application developer, this app is no longer available for the PlayBook.**

Canabalt is a fun, side-scrolling game for the BlackBerry PlayBook. The object is simple, run and jump your way across the rooftops without falling to your death. There are numerous obstacles along the way, both stationary and flying, that you must evade as you run for your high score. It’s a fun time-waster that you can play for hours or minutes at a time. I downloaded it yesterday evening and have played it for a few hours since then. It’s available for free in App World and you can get it from the link below.

February 21st is the day that PlayBook OS 2.0 is currently slated to launch, and with that day drawing near, it’s only natural that employees who sell the PlayBook would begin training for the new OS. Best Buy has started employee training using their Learning Lounge software to get employees ready to sell PlayBooks with OS 2.0. RIM extends free PlayBook offer to BlackBerry Developers, new and existing

posted by Zach Gilbert at on Feb 13, 2012 | Leave a comment

playbook angle3 550x367 RIM extends free PlayBook offer to BlackBerry Developers, new and existing

According to RIM they have had over 6600 new developers registered in the BlackBerry App World™ storefront since Friday, and due to the overwhelming response, have decided to extend the offer for a free PlayBook.

We knew developers were excited about our latest BlackBerry® PlayBook™ offer for Android™ developers when we announced it two weeks ago. You asked that Native C/C++, HTML5, Adobe® AIR®, and Qt developers have a chance to participate and we answered by opening the offer to all developers.

Today was going to be the deadline for the offer – but due to the overwhelming interest in the offer, we’re extending it one more time. How much interest? There have been over 1,500 app submissions as of last Friday and over 6600 new developers registered in the BlackBerry App World™ storefront.  We have teams working around the clock to approve vendor registrations and app submissions.  Because of the high demand, approvals are taking longer than normal – we appreciate your patience.

If you’re not a registered BlackBerry App World vendor, you now have until 11:59 PM EST on February 15, 2012 to register at http://appworld.blackberry.com/isvportal.

All vendors (new and existing) now have until 11:59 PM EST on March 2, 2012 to submit your application to BlackBerry App World. Check out our offer FAQ and we’ll be updating the official terms & conditionslater today.

So you’ve read it folks. RIM is giving you a second go to submit some really awesome PlayBook apps and get a free PlayBook while doing so! A win-win I must say. Hit up the source link below to get all the details from RIM themselves.

IMG 000000262 550x322 N.O.V.A. 2 HD updated to v2.0 for BlackBerry PlayBook OS 2.0 compatibility

Just like with Roboto and Samurai II, N.O.V.A. 2 HD is getting the update treatment pre-OS 2.0. NOVA 2 has been updated to version 2.0, and unlike with the previous 2 applications this morning, the NOVA update brings some new features to the game. Some of these new features include:

  • Meet new enemies with improved AI!
  • Master a larger range of weapons & powers
  • Much more diversified gameplay: run, shoot, fall, drive a motorbike, pilot a giant mech, and blast a laser
  • The more, the merrier, now with up to 10 players in 10 multiplaye maps
  • Build a career and rise through the multiplayer leaderboard
  • Explore new locations, offering amazing graphics

Whether you already have NOVA on your PlayBook or not, you should definetely give this update a try. The game was already awesome, and with the new additions, it should be better than ever.

RIM releases stats based on PlayBook over-the-air update effectiveness and they’re impressive

posted by Zach Gilbert at on Feb 7, 2012 | Leave a comment

[tweet_embed id=166826359925116928]

As you may know, RIM kicked of the BlackBerry Devcon in the Europe this morning with the opening keynote. While they didn’t announce the launch date for the much anticipated update to the BlackBerry PlayBook, Alec Saunders did give us a glimpse on just how well RIM’s PlayBook update system was working.

RIM said that within a month of a newly released OS for the PlayBook, 90% of owners have upgraded the latest OS, a stat that definitely gives developers a confidence boost. By having such a large number of users updating so quickly, developers won’t have to worry about compatibly as much with older operating systems. Keep it locked to TheBerryFix.com to get all the info from BlackBerry Devcon Europe.

Screen Shot 2011 12 05 at 5.38.30 PM DingleBerry Jailbreak Tool for BlackBerry PlayBook updated to v3.3.3

The team that makes the DingleBerry jailbreak/root for the BlackBerry PlayBook is constantly working to make their hack even better for all the PlayBook users out there. They have made a few improvements with their latest version, v3.3.3. Some of the changes in this release include:

  • More error checking in script loading and Dingling.
  • Check if user has root before running script.
  • Automatically fix malformed scripts from Windows.
  • Attempt to fix bug that prevents users with ‘slow Playbooks’ from dingling and running scripts. Added a lot of pauses in USB communication. If these have adverse effects please tell me. (Dingling now takes an extra second for normal users).

The DingleBerry team is working hard to make it both easier to jailbreak you PlayBook and add more functionality to the hack. We’ll let you know as the updates keep coming, but in the meantime, let us know if you are a PlayBook jailbreaker or prefer to keep it stock.
