AT&T has released some official updates for some of their older BlackBerry devices. The updated devices include the Bold 9000, Curve 8530, and Curve 8900. All three of these devices are receiving OS 5.0.0.1067. It’s always nice to see carriers and RIM keeping up with software updates on some of the older but still heavily used BlackBerry devices. Bank Of America (BOA) has launched a pilot program to test NFC payments. The new system is invitation-only and uses a BlackBerry with NFC to access the “Mobile Wallet.” The program uses the Curve 8500 series, Bold 9000, 9650, 9700, or Tour 9630. To enable NFC on these devices, BOA uses a custom battery door and SD card. The program begins in the “Spring” and will continue for a few months. This looks to be a great start for NFC on the BlackBerry. It’s only a small step but it sure is nice to see this technology being tested. I personally can’t wait till we have NFC for everything and we can drop our wallets in favor of our BlackBerrys. There are more screenshots from the Mobile Wallet program after the break.

Wow a little late to the game Rogers, but better late than never. Today Rogers released BlackBerry OS 5.0.0.822 for the BlackBerry Curve 8520, now the OS update is only currently available through desktop manager but should be available for direct download soon. To update your Rogers BlackBerry make sure you have the latest BlackBerry desktop manager installed on your computer and plug in your 8520 to receive the update.

T-Mobile has released an official OS update for both the Curve 8520 and Curve 8900. The update for both BlackBerrys is the same version number, 5.0.0.822. We don’t have any information on what changes and fixes may be in this release, but with it being an official we can assume it is stable and that there will be some bug fixes. If you make the jump to .822 on your Curve let us know if you find anything.
