We are in the midst of BlackBerry OS 6.1 leak madness and another key feature set from OS 6.1 has leaked out. The icon set from OS 6.1 has been extracted and leaked out for us all to see. Two of the icons in the OS 6.1 set further confirm the rumors that OS 6.1 devices will have both a compass and NFC capabilities. This new icon set looks pretty sweet. It’s nice to see RIM updating everything in the OS, including the traditional BlackBerry icons that were becoming quite stale. The icon set is available at the link below if you want to check them out or if you’re a theme developer looking to use the new icons in your theme.

blackberry sedona verizon 2 The Upcoming BlackBerry Sedona Stars In Another Photo Shoot

The BlackBerry Sedona, which is rumored to be the Next-generation BlackBerry Curve with a CDMA antenna, has shown up in another photoshoot from N4BB. This BlackBerry is showing up as being Verizon branded but I would guess that a version for Sprint is in the works as well. The new BlackBerry Sedona will outspec every current BlackBerry model with the addition of the 800MHz processor. The Sedona has a backlit keypad and the trackpad is also backlit like on the new BlackBerry Style. The Sedona is a great looking BlackBerry with some great rumored specifications. BlackBerry users have quite a lot to look forward to in 2011 with the addition of this and all the new BlackBerry smartphones to the lineup. The Sedona is rumored to launch with BlackBerry OS 6.1 lite, a less intensive version of the new BlackBerry 6 Evolution 6.1 that is set to launch later this year. Check out the rest of the photos after the break.

BlackBerry 61 RIM Announces The BlackBerry 6.1 Application Platform At DevCon Asia

RIM is making some pretty nice announcements from DevCon Asia. Earlier today we had the release of WebWorks for the PlayBook and now we have a preview of the BlackBerry 6.1 Application Platform. The new 6.1 Application Platform builds on the solid foundation of BlackBerry 6 and brings some cool new tools and features for developers to utilize. Some of the new tools in BlackBerry 6.1 include:

  • Magnetometer / Digital Compass API’s
  • Open GL ES-2.0
  • Window API (to overlay a UI on a native app interface)
  • Event-based Geo-fencing location API’s
  • Enhancements to Barcodes with additional formats and custom decoding
  • Many additional features

They have said that developers will gain access to these new tools soon to begin developing for the release of BlackBerry OS 6.1 coming in either Q2 or Q3 of 2011. This is great new for BlackBerry users and gives us a clue that we will see BlackBerry OS 6.1 soon and that could be the OS that comes between BlackBerry 6 and the new QNX OS that will be debuting in the future on BlackBerry smartphones. Stay tuned to TheBerryFix.com as we bring you more announcements by RIM from DevCon Asia.
