RIM has just posted some official information regarding the coming BlackBerry Internet Service (BIS) update to v4.1. BIS is the standard connection that your non-corporate BlackBerry uses to connect to the internet and all the BlackBerry PIM functions including BBM and Email. RIM has plans to update the service to v4.1 and make some changes to email delivery.
The biggest change will be that email flow will continue to a registered device even if the SIM is swapped. This is a good change for some situations, but if you plan to sell or giveaway your old device you’ll need to be sure to Security Wipe it so the new owner doesn’t get your email. You can check out all the details on the BIS 4.2 changes after the break.

Leaked RIM Software Roadmap Gives Us A Glimpse of BlackBerry 7 Release Date And More!

A few weeks back we got wind of the new hardware that RIM will be pushing out this year and now we’ve been graced with the software side of RIM’s 2011 plans.
Looking over this internal document gets you a good idea where things are going this year, with BIS 4.0 Planned for a March/April launch and probably the most exciting thing is the planned launch of BlackBerry 7, the successor to the biggest update to the BlackBerry operating system BlackBerry 6.
The big question on my mind is whether BLackBerry 7 is the QNX operating system we’ve been waiting for, or if it is just an evolution of the current operating system possibly with a QNX core? I guess the best thing to do is wait and see what RIM has in-store for BlackBerry World in May.
