Yesterday we saw the full specs for the first BlackBerry 10 phone, the Z10, leak out. Today we have some more information on that 1,800, mAh battery that will be used to power the device. The Z10 will get the following battery life on the standard battery:
- GSM Talk Time: 8 hrs, GSM Standby Time: 305 hrs
- UMTS Talk Time: 10 hrs, UMTS Standby Time: 285 hrs
- Audio Playback: 60 hrs, Video Playback: 10 hrs
These times are, as usual, best case estimates and you won’t get anywhere near these in real world usage. Keep in mind that these times are for the GSM model of the Z10 only, and that the times are only listed for GSM and UMTS. The times for 4G LTE, which most North American devices will run, should be significantly less than this. We’ll keep you up to date as more information leaks out prior to the official unveiling on January 30th.

BlackBerry PlayBook Battery Life Rumors Are False, Says RIM
10:35 am on Dec 30, 2010 | Leave a comment

Earlier in the week there were rumors floating around that the BlackBerry PlayBook was going to be delayed due to poor battery performance, According to RIM this isn’t the case;
“Any testing or observation of battery life to date by anyone outside of RIM would have been performed using pre-beta units that were built without power management implemented. RIM is on track with its schedule to optimize the BlackBerry PlayBook’s battery life and looks forward to providing customers with a professional grade tablet that offers superior performance with comparable battery life.”
Its actually pretty funny to see others trying to lower the image of a product to consumers even before its hit the streets. The battery life rumor started from Kaufman Brothers analyst Shawn Wu, who stated that the BlackBerry PlayBook had poor battery life getting only 2 hrs which is not comparable to the competition. I had a little feeling that these statements were not accurate, I’m not saying they aren’t true because maybe this analyst was getting his information from someone with a early build like RIM stated. All I’m saying is that I have faith in RIM and the PlayBook will kick ass and beat out the competition in all categories.
