Recently I installed the newest leaked os for my BlackBerry Bold 9700 and was actually quite impressed with the increased battery life, faster boot time, and all over increased responsiveness of the new OS. When hunting around for the possibility of new settings and menus I enabled the save messenger history to memory card option because I often forget to make notes on important conversations. When the setting was enabled a message popped up warning me that this may be illegal in my country and to check with my local laws before enabling.
Could this be one of many more warning messages to come to our BlackBerry devices? Is RIM going overboard on the security settings? Realistically I can save the messages in bbm just by never closing the conversation, so in theory shouldn’t there be a warning then also? Let me know what you think, or am I just crazy?

Tether turns one official press release
“Tether Turns One Year Old!
Tether is officially celebrating its first year in business! It’s hard to believe just a year ago we asked for a little help beta testing our product. That early interest and exposure helped us explode to where we are today!
In just the past year we’ve helped over 110,000 BlackBerry Smartphones share their data connection with their laptops, all over the world. The year has been exciting with our rebranding from TetherBerry to Tether, launch of the Mac & Bluetooth version, our Android Beta and winning the local Innovacorp I3 competition.
It has been a fun ride and we hope to build on this momentum in 2010. We hope to continue to accelerate our growth and move closer to our goal of creating a Tethering solution for all major mobile operating systems.
Our engineering team has been working hard on our Android version. Although we haven’t officially launched the beta test to our users, we promise it’s going to be worth the wait. Just look at these unbelievable speed tests!
But what’s a birthday without a little celebration?
We’re doing something a little special. We’re giving away six Smartphones. Three BlackBerry Smartphones and three Android Smartphones, each laser-etched or decaled with the Tether logo. And, entering the contest is dead simple!
In addition, we’re giving a number of Tether licenses away to various blogs. So if you aren’t a Tether owner and want to be, check out your favorite BlackBerry or Android blog. If you don’t want to wait, you can buy our product for a special price of $29.99 until March 16th.
Ok, we’re almost done just a little excited it’s our birthday! We are hoping that if you have a few minutes, you wouldn’t mind filling out a little survey to help us better our service and product in the next year.
Well that’s the news and our way of saying thanks for a great year! Thank you to all of our Tether customers!”
BlackBerry App World has been updated to version 22.214.171.124 and is available to download on your BlackBerry smartphone. There isn’t a change log on the newest release of App World but already I am seeing some speed improvements, but if you are noticing some other changes chime in the comments below.
The update can be downloaded from App World or from the link below.
Amongst the many electronic Blog sites out there one of my favorite is Engadget and a few months ago the launched the BlackBerry app and i couldn’t have been more excited. Their app gives you the information and feel of the web site but with a bit of a speed boost, and is now new and improved. So if your addicted to tech news that this is the app you need to have on your BlackBerry, just grab the link below.
I’ve been using Slacker radio since it was available for download in canada and it seems like its been forever since we have received an update and even when theres an update im a little sceptical up applying the patch, because recently an update rendered the app useless. Today Slacker releases v3.0.454, the new version brings many bug fixes also a little speed boost, which is always welcomed. So grab the latest Slacker radio and tell us what you think of the update.

Ever wish for the experience of the casino on your BlackBerry? Now the excitement can follow you. BerrySlots is now available on both touch screen and keyboard devices. The game is on sale for $2.99 in the Mobihand App store, so why go to vegas when vegas will come to you…..well ok so its not the same but it should hold you over until your next visit there.
How many times have you gone to use your blackberry as a modem and sat there for some time trying to find out those VPN settings? I know I have and its frustrating. Stop being confused and annoyed; There is finally a solution and its called Tether. Tether, formerly Tetherberry, was introduced in early 2009 for blackberry users as an alternative to carrier options which cost extra on your monthly bill. Why should we have to pay extra to use the data we already pay for? This is the mentality the guys over at Tether have demonstrated and this is definitely the reason behind why Tether is so easy to use. They understand what we, as a blackberry nation, want and need.
A few months ago I used the Tether app on a CDMA Blackberry Storm 9530 and was surprised at the speeds I received, knowing that the CDMA network is considerably slower than a HSPA or GSM network. I thought I was going to experience circa 1999 internet speeds but I was pleasantly surprised when my laptop started to receive speeds equivalent to a high-speed lite service from a wired connection. Fast forward to today, we were given the latest copy of Tether to play with and though there are mild UI changes, the app remains pretty much the same easy to use application, but now with the added support of Bluetooth.
Tether’s two part installation is straight forward. Open the URL in your blackberry browser and install the on-device app, then open the URL on your Mac or PC (yes, you read right, they offer Mac support) and that’s it for the installation (like I said no VPN settings for this app). With the Mac installation if you are planning on using the USB cable instead of Bluetooth to connect your Blackberry to Tether, you cannot have BlackBerry Desktop Manager installed at the same time. This question was brought up to Patrick from Tether and his response was with “USB on the Mac we are still having issues as there is a bug with RIM’s driver. Users would be able to use the Bluetooth version with no problems.” This is something I am sure will be corrected in the coming releases. If you are planning on using Bluetooth as your connection method just a warning that it isn’t as fast as the USB connection because Bluetooth has a lower transfer rate than USB does.
While I was using Tether on my Mac I received an error message from my BlackBerry and then it shut down Tether. After relaunching the app I was back in business with no issues. Using Tether is simple, just plug in your Blackberry and launch the app on your BlackBerry and then on your computer and you now have Internet anywhere. I put Tether to the test using speakeasy speed test with my BlackBerry Bold 9700, first the VPN settings provided by my carrier were used then ran the same test using Tether and to my surprise I actually saw a speed increase with Tether. With Tether I saw speeds of 1.5mbs to 2mbs. For internet anywhere, I’ll take those speeds, thank you VERY much.
With every app, accessory or BlackBerry device there are ups and downs. With Tether there are a few things I would like to see in the next release; the ability for the computer application to automatically launch when you connect your device, for the application to remember your last connection settings, whether it is Bluetooth or USB and lastly to work when I have Mac Desktop Manager installed. With Tether, the few negatives I have experienced pale in comparison to the great things Tether brings to the table, and hey, now my BlackBerry can truly do just about everything.
So If you are looking for a alternative to paying your carrier extra for using your data on your computer, give Tether a try. They let you try the app first and then buy, Tether is competitively priced at 49.99, which is a one-time fee.
Im going to let this video do most of the talking, but what we have here is the leaked copy of the every so popular Poynt application for BlackBerry and the video review to go along. BBHybrids leaked the newest Poynt OTA files a few days ago so we decided to show everyone what they Canadian guys at Multiplied Media Corporation, take a look at the video and tell us if you think they are heading in the right direction, or tell us what you think should be added to the app.
