RIM is Shutting Down Tungle.me December 3rd, Moving Team to BlackBerry 10 Development
4:30 pm on Sep 18, 2012 | Leave a comment

Tungle.me is a development company that RIM purchased a short while ago in a effort to further expand their developmental capabilities. Shortly after being brought on by RIM, the BlackBerry PlayBook Calendar application was developed by the Tungle team. Tungle.me was also a service by itself prior to RIM’s acquisition of the company.
The Tungle.me scheduling service is still running as a standalone service; however, it will be shutting down completely on December 3rd. RIM has made the decision to shutter Tungle.me so that they can bring the Tungle team in for full-time BlackBerry 10 development. This development team is currently working on the calendar, contacts, messaging, notes, and memos applications for BlackBerry 10.
You can read the email that Tungle.me is sending out to users past the break and you can view Tungle’s own shutdown announcement at the link below.

1:20 pm on Dec 2, 2011 | Leave a comment

We last took a look at the BBM Avatar builder from RIM a few months ago during their initial release, but since then the app has laid dormant….until now. One thing about the holidays is we all have that one relative that just loves to buy everyone a hideous sweater for christmas and while we all dread wearing them, we still do it. So to help celebrate the holiday season RIM has added a new expansion pack to the BBM Avatar app, the Holiday sweater expansion.
So show your grandma some love and hit up App World (may take up to 24hrs to appear) to dress up your BBM avatar in time for the holiday sweater….I mean, festive season.

Search for and Book hotels using HRS Hotel app on the BlackBerry PlayBook
1:44 pm on Nov 30, 2011 | Leave a comment

While I must admit there are a ton of games that utilize the stellar hardware found in the BlackBerry PlayBook, but what about useful apps ? I’ve found that apps are still something thats lacking on this tablet, but I did want to point out one that I’ve found to be noticeably useful while traveling. Being an online journalist (or blogger as we are known) I do a considerable about of traveling, and while there are a few apps on BlackBerry phones that help, there aren’t any that match the functionality of HRS app for the PlayBook.
HRS for the BlackBerry PlayBook is a Hotel search and booking application. Not only does it use the GPS found in the device to pin point your location it also allows you to enter in search criteria to further refine the hotels in your area. HRS can be found in BlackBerry app world by searching for “HRS”, or grab the handy link I’ve placed below this post to check it out. Let us know if you’ve found any hand apps that have made your day better.

RIM seems to be on a roll with application updates today. They just updated twitter and now BlackBerry Traffic in Beta Zone. If you’ve never used traffic before it’s an application that allows you to plan ahead a know how the traffic is on your planned route. The app also has the ability to send notifications to your contacts and let them know when you’re running a little behind.
Please see below for fixed issues in BlackBerry Traffic version 3.0.0.319
- *Fixed* Guidance Options: wording changed to “Standard-quality Audio (2.5x larger data download)” and “High-quality Audio (10x larger data download)”
- *Fixed* Battery Consumption: periodic timers disabled when in background and in arrived state.
As you can see in the change long there aren’t any huge changes, just a few bug fixes. If you’re a Beta Zone user grab the link below to get the update, and if you aren’t on Beta Zone….then sign up!

Machinarium now available on the BlackBerry PlayBook
9:15 pm on Nov 21, 2011 | Leave a comment

I must say that with the portability of the PlayBook, I’ve found myself buying a ton more games that I bought when I had my iPad, mainly due to the ability to carry this powerhouse around everywhere I go. During BlackBerry Devcon we were shown a gamethat has been talked about all over the web, USA TODAY gives it a 4/4 and IGF gave it the “Excellence in Visual Art Award” and TheBerryFix.com gives it the “Best Frikin Game on The PlayBook” Award.
Machinarium is a game that brings you into the world of a little robot that is on the hunt to save his robot girl friend, and while I can talk about it all day, you need to try it for yourself. Check out the trailer after the break, and if you can’t wait to grab your PlayBook and hit download, you can give the demo a spin at the link below.

Hands on video of the new BlackBerry TAG NFC application coming to BlackBerry 7 devices
12:56 pm on Nov 18, 2011 | Leave a comment
[To view this video on your BlackBerry, Click Here]
It’s a well known fact that a lot of the new BlackBerry 7 devices have been equipped with the latest in NFC (Near Field Communication) technology, but you might be wandering how it will be implemented on your new BlackBerry. While we were in Waterloo (the birthplace of the BlackBerry) I had a chance to sit down and get a demo of the new NFC features that will be making their way into a BB7 OS update in the near future.
RIM is looking to equipped the new devices with the ability to send videos, photos, contacts and even add a BBM buddy through NFC tech, and the best part is that they’ve also enabled the use of Bluetooth as a bridge to make the whole process a lot quicker. Take a look at the video above and see it in action for your self.
