Smarter Apps, the makers of the BlackBerry hit game Angry Farm, have just announced a huge milestone for the company. Smarter Apps is just shy of 10 Million unique BlackBerry users, and to celebrate, they are giving away their most popular app, Angry Farm, for free. We saw this app release a few weeks back and get pulled immediately from App World. There was no explanation behind the quick release and pull but now it’s officially available. RIM has now announced the official release and the full Angry Birds suite of games is available for download in App World for the BlackBerry PlayBook. This latest installment brings the birds to a whole new environment, space. The list contains four Smartphone apps and one PlayBook app, an interesting fact considering the PlayBook’s only been around for a year and Smartphone users have had 3 years to purchase apps. All in all, there have been over 2 Billion downloads from App World over these 3 years and the total app catalog now boasts over 70,000 titles. It’s been almost a year since RIM announced that Rovio would be bringing the Angry Birds game to the BlackBerry PlayBook, and well today is officially that day. Rovio has brought the whole Angry Birds franchise onto the PlayBook which includes Angry Birds Rio, Angry Birds Seasons and the original Angry Birds game.

Theres been a lot of questioning going around the web with the PlayBook, mainly a few application that RIM announced via BlackBerry World back in May. I reached out to RIM regarding an App that I’ve been getting quite a few emails about, Angry Birds and here’s what RIM had to say.

“Angry Birds is still planned for this summer”

A short but to the point response. Angry Birds was announced by RIM with no release date back at BlackBerry World, and I guess now we at least have something to work with. With summer coming to an end quite quickly I’m hoping we see the game very soon.

RIM announced this morning at BlackBerry World 2011 that Angry Birds is officially coming soon to the PlayBook. Mike Lazaridis proudly announced the news to the cheering crowd in Orlando. There was no immediate information on when we would be getting it on our PlayBooks, but an official announcement is a great start. Angry Birds has to be the most requested application for the BlackBerry PlayBook. It is also a great example, along with the newly released FaceBook app, that RIM is listening to their customers and bringing us what we want. This is a great new legacy that RIM is building with PlayBook and we can expect to see the platform grow leaps and bounds over the competition in the months and years to come.
