Starbucks has sent out a mass email to all users of their Starbucks Card Mobile app for BlackBerry informing them that the end of the app is near. The application was officially launched back in March of 2011 and then pulled from downloading in October. When the app was pulled, Starbucks said they were ceasing development because there were not enough BlackBerry users to justify further development of an application. However, it was noted that users who already had the app by then would be able to continue using it to pay for their drinks and manage their account.
Starbucks has now informed BlackBerry app users that the application will cease to work on August 28th. If you’re still using the Starbucks Card Mobile app on your BlackBerry and still have a card balance, you’ll need to go to your local Starbucks before August 28th to have the balance transferred to a physical card or application on another platform. It’s possible that we may see a BlackBerry 10 app from Starbucks, but that’s only assuming the platform becomes a success and justifies an app.
