RIM is gearing up to launch the first BlackBerry 10 devices sometime in 2013. This we know. We also know they will have 4G LTE connectivity and 720p screen resolution. That’s where our knowledge of BlackBerry 10 devices ends. A rumor coming out of BBOS today is alleging that RIM plans to use the Snapdragon S4 Pro processor in the upcoming BlackBerry 10 devices.
What is the Snapdragon S4 Pro and why does RIM need it, you ask? The chip is basically a powerhouse that specializes in HD-multimedia content and lightning fast multitasking with its dual-core design. In also supports all the protocols that RIM is planning to use for BlackBerry 10, including:
- Bluetooth 4.0
- 802.11 a/b/g/n WiFi
- 4G LTE
- HSPA+
- GSM/EDGE
- EV-DO (CDMA)
While this isn’t confirmed as of yet, this rumor certainly has some legs and it’s entirely possible we could see the S4 Pro in the first BlackBerry 10 devices in 2013. Ww’ll let you know as soon as we hear anything solid on the processing plant RIM chooses for BlackBerry 10.
