It has been heavily discussed that RIM would be laying off some additional employees to combat their falling position and help cut costs. Restructuring and layoffs have been previously confirmed by RIM; however, a second round of layoffs had gone unconfirmed until now. A RIM spokesperson confirmed late yesterday that “RIM has reduced some positions as part of its cutback program, and may continue to do so as the company methodically works through a review of the business.”
There is no confirmation of exactly how many RIM jobs are being cut, but according to previously announced numbers it could be upwards of 2,000 jobs. Most analysts are reporting that RIM will be cutting around 3,000 jobs and some reports claim the number of layoffs could go as high as 6,000. We’ll let you know when and if we hear more on these layoffs, but rest assured, RIM has a purpose for these cuts and it fits in their plan to use BlackBerry 10 to bring the company to its former glory.
