P8120099 1024x768 Review: The Jabra Cruiser In Car Bluetooth Speakerphone

The Jabra Cruiser in-car Bluetooth speakerphone was sent to us by the team at Jabra for review. I have been using this device for the past few weeks and I have been very impressed with its feature set and quality. The setup and use of this device are very simple and the long cord on the in-car charger is very helpful in keeping the Cruiser fully charged and ready to use.  The voice that announces events on the Cruiser is a calm and soothing female voice. The Cruiser is available at most major electronics retailers for an MSRP of $99.99. The full review with additional photos of the Jabra Cruiser in-car Bluetooth Speakerphone is featured afte the break.

First, the video unboxing.

Unboxing and Initial Setup

P8120107 1024x768 Review: The Jabra Cruiser In Car Bluetooth Speakerphone

The Jabra Cruiser comes in a small and stylish box with all its accessories in the bottom of the box.  When you pull everything out of the box you have: The Jabra Cruiser, the visor mounting clip, the USB charging cable, the quick start manual, and the car charger. Right out of the box you see the Cruiser’s beautiful design. The piano black face with chrome trim is stunning with any interior color. You just plug in the usb charger to your computer or use the car charging plug to charge the unit in your car.  When you switch the Cruiser on for the first time it is in pairing mode. You just have to pair your BlackBerry with it and you can use the instructions found here in our BlackBerry School Lesson on Bluetooth. After pairing for the first time your BlackBerry will automatically connect to the Cruiser from then on.

General Speakerphone Use

Using the Jabra Cruiser is very easy. Just flip the side switch to the on position and make sure the Bluetooth on your BlackBerry is switched on. Your BlackBerry should automatically connect to the Cruiser after that initial setup.  If you receieve a phone call while the Cruiser is connected it will ring and announce the phone number of the person calling you.  To answer all it takes is a slight press on the top of the Cruiser.  You can have your conversation without shouting and the voice quality of the speaker is amazing. To me it seems as if the person is riding right in the car whit you when I use the Jabra Cruiser. The Crusier’s dual microphone design zeroes in on your voice with one mic and pulls in the background noise with the other. Your voice is all that the caller on the other end will hear.  Using the speakerphone with the windows down causes some feedback for the caller; however, its not too bad if you really enjoy the windows down. When you end your call the Cruiser will announce “call ended” in a soothing voice.

Music Streaming

The Jabra Cruiser features A2DP and AVRCP technology which allows you to stream your music wirelessly through the device. You can play music through the media player on your BlackBerry and control it right on the Cruiser. The cruiser features a side rocker to control volume and a forward, back, and play/pause button to control the playback. Music streams flawlessly from the BlackBerry to the Cruiser. There are no skips and no quality loss when streaming wirelessly to the Cruiser.

FM Radio Connectivity

The Jabra Cruiser has an FM transmitter that allows you to stream your calls and music directly to your car stereo over an FM frequency. To turn this feature on there is a convenient FM button on the side of the Cruiser.  The Cruiser chooses the default FM frequency but you can use the volume rocker to select a clear frequency for your area.  FM streaming is very clear when you are on an open FM channel. I was very impressed with the quality of the FM streaming. Many other FM streaming devices I have used in the past have been of much poorer sound quality than the Cruiser.

Conclusion

Overall I found the Jabra Cruiser to be an excellent Bluetooth speakerphone unit. I have used quite a few in-car units and the Cruiser sits right at the top of the list. It is my daily use Bluetooth speakerphone in my car and will continue to be unless a more advanced unit comes along. I love the voice quality both from the sound in the car and the sound the caller hears on the other end. The FM streaming is a plus and is something I use quite frequently instead of the iPod. TheBerryFix.com highly recommends the Jabra Cruiser in-car Bluetooth Speakerphone to all our readers. Thanks to Jabra for sending this unit over and keep your browsers here as we continue to bring you the latest in BlackBerry technology. Check out a few more photos below.
