As you may have heard, BlackBerry was set to launch BBM cross-platform over the weekend. Well, that didn’t really happen. Slightly before the launch of BBM for Android and iOS a leaked version of the software was released onto the internet, says a representative from BlackBerry. The leaked Android version of BBM caused issues during the global rollout, delaying the launch on to Android, then delaying the launch on iOS.
Prior to launching BBM for Android, an unreleased version of the BBM for Android app was posted online. The interest and enthusiasm we have seen already – more than 1.1 million active users in the first 8 hours without even launching the official Android app – is incredible. Consequently, this unreleased version caused issues, which we have attempted to address throughout the day.
Our teams continue to work around the clock to bring BBM to Android and iPhone, but only when it’s ready and we know it will live up to your expectations of BBM. We are pausing the global roll-out of BBM for Android and iPhone. Customers who have already downloaded BBM for iPhone will be able to continue to use BBM. The unreleased Android app will be disabled, and customers who downloaded it should visit www.BBM.com to register for updates on official BBM for Android availability.
As soon as we are able, we will begin a staggered country roll-out of BBM for Android and continue the roll-out of BBM for iPhone. Please follow @BBM on Twitter for the latest updates and go to www.BBM.com to sign-up for updates about BBM for Android and iPhone. These issues have not impacted BBM service for BlackBerry.
As you can see BlackBerry is going full tilt to get this issue resolved, just sucks that they have now missed the promised launch date of the end of summer. Stay tuned as we update you on the launch of BBM for Android and iOS.

It’s Justin, the Editor-in-Chief, checking in. I wanted to let everyone know what is going on with the site and what’s in store for the future. I have taken a full-time job in my professional career of Engineering and I will no longer be able to continue supporting TheBerryFix as Editor-in-Chief.
This was a difficult decision for me, especially being a part of seeing this site grow and change over the past 4 years. I want to thank each and every person who has come to the site, clicked our links, read my reviews, and watched my videos over the past 4 years. We couldn’t have done any of this without you. I also want to extend a huge thanks to BlackBerry for all your support. Without you, there would be no BlackBerry and certainly no BerryFix.
Zach Gilbert, the founder and former Editor-in-Chief of TBF, will be coming back on board and taking the reigns again. The vision for the site remains the same, to be the best at providing knowledgeable news and reviews to BlackBerry fans. Zach is still an avid BlackBerry user and he will bring you the best that BlackBerry has to offer in the coming months. Thank You, Zach, for giving me this opportunity and letting me be a part of this awesome team here at TheBerryFix.
Thanks again for all your support over the past 4 years. It’s been an honor serving Team BlackBerry. You may see me guest posting here from time to time, however, my full attention will be on my full-time Engineering career. I wish you all the best and hope to see BlackBerry make the comeback in the coming years.
