News has surfaced today about the leaking of dangerous new Spyware for BlackBerry called FinFisher. The software, which has been developed by the UK-based Gamma Group, can turn your BlackBerry into an all-out spying device. The Spyware can do everything from turning on your microphone, to tracking your location, and even reading your text messages or emails.

The software was developed for governmental and police use; however, this leak means it’s possible that the bad guys could have it, too. The Director of Gamma International, Martin J. Muench, had this to say regarding the spyware:

“I can confirm that Gamma supplies a piece of mobile intrusion software — FinSpy Mobile.” He went on to say “I certainly don’t intend to discuss how or on what platforms it works. I do not wish to inform criminals of how any of our detection systems are used against them.”

So this is just a warning to BlackBerry users everywhere. BlackBerry Security is NOT impenetrable and you could be carrying around a device that spies on you, if you aren’t careful. Just be sure you don’t install any software or give out any device permissions to apps you don’t recognize, and you should be fine.
