Whether you’re looking to shed a few pounds in time for the summer swimsuit season or just want to get in better shape for a healthier life, eating right and working out are two integral parts of that plan. When you’re trying to get healthy, eating healthy foods and correct portions is very often the hardest part of it all, trust me, I’ve been in the weight-loss game since December of last year. However, there’s a great app out there called MyFitnessPal and it can help you achieve your fitness goals. Follow me past the break for a look at this awesome app from someone who knows it well, I’ve lost over 40 pounds with the help of MyFitnessPal.

The first thing that people will like about MyFitnessPal is the price. It’s completely free to use, which is a good thing when you’re spending extra cash on a gym membership and healthier foods. They have mobile apps available on almost all devices and they all sync wirelessly with the MyFitnessPal Website. This type of wireless connectivity is crucial when you’ll be tracking all your meals and snacks along the way. Let’s take a look at some of the features of MyFitnessPal.
Calorie Tracking
*The home screen where you calorie count is displayed*
When you start your account, you’ll enter your current body statistics and then decide how many pounds you’d like to lose per week. The app will then recommend a daily calorie goal for you based on this information. The premise of calorie tracking is simple. You put in what you eat and you put in the exercise you do during the day. The app will keep track of your calories eaten and burned and will let you know how many calories you have left for the day to meet your daily goal.
*Choose your meal or workout here*
Inputting your food or exercise is easy. You just click “Add to Diary” and select which meal or exercise type you want to enter. For foods, you enter the amount that you consumed, based on serving size. The app has a HUGE selection of food choices available. There are very few foods or restaurants I have eaten that MyFitnessPal didn’t have a record of. As far as entering exercise, you just put in what type of exercise you did and how long. The app will automatically calculate an estimate for the amount of calories you burned. I have found it to be really good at these estimations, usually only 10-15 calories different than what the machine in the gym shows.
The Social Aspect
*Here’s an example of my updates to the social feed*
Besides the calorie tracking that MyFitnessPal offers, I have found the social aspect of the network to be the most beneficial. You can link up with others that are trying to lose weight and keep each other accountable. There is a huge network of people already on the network that are more than willing to help keep you motivated. Currently, the social features of MyFitnessPal aren’t available directly from the BlackBerry app. To view your friends’ updates and comments you’ll have to use the web version. The website looks really great in the BlackBerry Browser, so it’s pretty easy to keep up with your friends there until the company adds social feeds to the BlackBerry app.
Wrap-Up
MyFitnessPal isin’t the perfect solution for weight loss, but then again, there isin’t really any perfect solution that’s going to work for everyone. It is; however, one of the best weight-loss helpers out there, and my weight loss helps attest to that. If you’re motivated, honest, and don’t quit, using MyFitnessPal can help you shed the pounds and get into the shape you’ve always wanted. Why not give it a try for a few days, it’s free and it can only help you reach your goal.
