Finally, we have some good news to report for RIM and the BlackBerry PlayBook. The BlackBerry PlayBook has finally started to take hold, at least in Canada. The PlayBook now has grabbed 19% of the tablet market share in Canada. The report attributes the PlayBook’s gains to its smaller size and low price. The report also states that Apple’s iPad, the front runner in the tablet race, dropped from 80% share to 56% share in Canada over the past year. The PlayBook definitely took some of this share and is poised to take more, especially as we see the PlayBook 4G and BlackBerry 10 launch.
This is big news folks, especially as the number of BlackBerry users continues to fall elsewhere in North America. It is also a good sign for BlackBerry 10, since BB10 is basically a PlayBook that’s phone-sized. It also shows that there is still faith left in the brand. If people didn’t still believe in BlackBerry, no one would be buying up PlayBooks. It has been, and will continue to be, a long and hard road for RIM, but in the next few years they can and will rise again.
