Foursquare for BlackBerry 3.0 now officially available

posted by Justin Lisenby at on Jul 19, 2011 | Leave a comment

A few days back we saw Foursquare 3.0 arrive in Alpha for the BlackBerry. This new version caught BlackBerry users up with other platforms and brought full BBM integration to the app. This official version of Foursquare 3.0 brings all those features from the Alpha version, plus a few more. But there is one thing missing, BBM integration. Rumor has it that there were some issues on both RIM’s and Foursquare’s parts when the Alpha with BBM was released and that both parties are working to bring the full BBM integrated experience back to the app. Foursquare even mentioned in their blog post for the update that they are working on the BBM integration and it should be out soon. In the mean time, you can get the official Foursquare 3.0 update which features:

  • An overhauled UI, from the check-in screen down to your friends list.
  • Explore! Get personalized recommendations on places to go, from your past check-ins, your friends’, and the whole foursquare community. Search for what you want (like a lobster roll) or just tap an activity (like ‘drinks’ or ‘food’). And, for those of you who like deals, tap the ‘Specials’ button to find Specials nearby that are perfect for you.
  • Speaking of Specials, this update allows you to grab daily deals around you from our five partners – LivingSocial, Gilt City, BuyWithMe, YP.com, and zozi. Seamless savings without leaving foursquare.
  • The full leaderboard. See how you’re doing compared to your friends.

You can grab Foursquare 3.0 either from App World, which is linked below, or from the Foursquare Download Page. The App World link hasn’t been updated to v3.0 at the time of publishing so you may want to grab the update from the Download Page until RIM approves the app for App World.

posted by Justin Lisenby at on Jul 14, 2011 | Leave a comment

Foursquare v3.0 is that update that BlackBerry users have been waiting for. Version 3.0 brings many new features to the BlackBerry version of Foursquare. Some of the features and improvements include:

  • BBM integration
  • Updated Explore options
  • Updated UI
  • Many other improvements

The biggest of those new features is, of course, BBM integration. This is a topic that has been heavily discussed lately, especially with the release of BBM Social to developers. It’s great to see such a high-profile app developer like Foursquare integrating BBM and leading development for the platform. If you’re a Foursquare fan, you can grab the Alpha update from the link below. Keep in mind that this is an Alpha release and may still contain a few bugs.

OS 5.0.0.1079 for the BlackBerry Bold 9000 Leaked

posted by Justin Lisenby at on Jul 8, 2011 | Leave a comment

The Cadillac of BlackBerry Smartphones has gotten some new rims today. OS 5.0.0.1079 has just leaked for the BlackBerry Bold 9000. While the 9000 is a few years old and only running OS 5, it still remains one of the most widely used devices out there. It’s large keyboard and screen make it a favorite among the BlackBerry faithful and the upcoming Bold Touch 9900 even pays homage to the original 9000 with it’s design. If you’re still rocking the Bold 9000 you may want to give this update a go and let us know what changes you find.

**WARNING: This is not an official release for BlackBerry and therefore has not been fully tested and may contain bugs. TheBerryFix.com cannot be held responsible for any issues that arise ether during or after installation. You are installing the leak by choice. To help the BlackBerry community please don’t forget to post your findings in the Forum.

RIM prepares developers for transition to App World 3.0

posted by Justin Lisenby at on Jul 5, 2011 | Leave a comment

App world 3

RIM has started letting developers know that the transition to App World version 3.0 is coming soon. They sent out notices through their vendor portal to all developers today. Phase 1 of the transition begins July 6 from 2-6 AM EST when RIM will have the developer portal down for the upgrade. Developers won’t be able to access the dev portal or submit new apps or updates during this timeframe. RIM is also adding two new features to the developer forms in APP World. These new features are:

  • Short Description: This is your feature description or your one line sales pitch. Please provide a “short description” of each of your items to make your app more discoverable. We support multilingual short descriptions so you can make your sales pitch more local and relevant to better attract users who speak more languages around the globe.
  • Feature Image: You can now upload a featured app image. This is required if you want your application to be considered for feature. It will make your application much more discoverable. Image Specifications: 1920 x 1186 pixel .PNG file.

While this doesn’t mean that App World 3.0 will be launching right away for consumers, it does mean that the launch is fast approaching. With RIM preparing developers and the back-end of App World for the launch, it’s only a matter of time till the consumer portal into App World is upgraded. We’ll keep you up to date when we hear more and developers will be working hard to prepare their apps for the transition.
