It looks like the first builds of BlackBerry OS 7.1 are starting to trickle out from carriers. Sprint is the first US carrier to release this update, and they are doing so for both the Bold 99330 and Torch 9850. The build for the Bold 9930 is 7.1.0.163 and the build for the Torch 9850 is the same. If you’re on Sprint you can check your device for available updates. If you’re not seeing it yet, be patient, it takes a little time for these to roll out across the entire system. The largest addition to OS 7.1 is the mobile hotspot feature. It seems like all we have talked about this week has been OS 6.0.0.600. We have seen it become the official build for numerous devices this week and we are adding two more to that list. OS 6.0.0.600 for both the Curve 3G 9330 and Style 9670 has been officially released by the Alaskan carrier, GCI. AT&T has made OS 6.0.0.600 available as the official release for the BlackBerry Torch 9800. We have had this OS leak and be made official by other carriers already, so if you’re on AT&T and still waiting for this to officially drop, now is the time for you to upgrade.

It seems that BlackBerry 6 Build .600 is becoming the standard official OS. We have seen it for the 9650, 9780, and Pearl 3G. Now, Vodafone DE has made it the official build for the Curve 3G 9300. Just yesterday we saw OS build .600 get official for the Bold 9650 and today we are seeing it for the Bold 9780 and Pearl 3G 9100/9105. Vodafone DE has officially released OS 6.0.0.600 for both of these devices and it is available for download now from their software update site. Verizon has just released an official OS update for both the Bold 9650 and the Curve 9330. The OS build for both devices is OS 6.0.0.524 and is available on the Verizon OS update website. This OS build for both devices is stable and the preferred official OS for Verizon customers on these devices.

Today we have a new, official OS for all the Pearl 3G owners out there. OS 6.0.0.546 is now available for download from Vodafone DE for the Pearl 3G. This OS works for both the 9100 and 9105 models. There’s no word on what has been changed in this version, but it should be stable since it is an official release. Always back-up your device before updating. Let us know what you think of the upgrade if you load it onto your BlackBerry.

RIM promised us an update and they have delivered. Just hours before the general keynote at BlackBerry World, BlackBerry PlayBook OS version 1.0.3.1868 is available for download. The new OS brings some core features like video chat, upgraded web browser and more, so press the “check for update” button and get in on the action. A full list of changes can be found in my post from yesterday.

TELUS has just released OS 6.0.0.481 for the Pearl 3G as an official OS update. The update is available directly from the TELUS OS update site which is linked below for convenience. If you’re running the 9100 and are looking for the latest official BlackBerry 6 update, then this is the one you want.

AT&T has released some official updates for some of their older BlackBerry devices. The updated devices include the Bold 9000, Curve 8530, and Curve 8900. All three of these devices are receiving OS 5.0.0.1067. It’s always nice to see carriers and RIM keeping up with software updates on some of the older but still heavily used BlackBerry devices. Rogers has sent the above SMS out to BlackBerry Torch 9800 users on it’s network. The SMS brings news of an official OS upgrade for Torch users coming over the next few days. The update will presumably be an OTA update at first with a Desktop Manager update coming to Roger’s OS update site sometime soon. We’ll keep you up to date as soon as the desktop download is available.
