Torch Live Posting: RIM Officially Announces The BlackBerry Torch 9800 And BlackBerry 6

This is our live posting of the BlackBerry 6 and Torch 9800 launch event.  This page will be continually updated throughout the event but will not refresh automatically.

At the Torch 9800 Launch event the Torch 9800 is being called the “Best BlackBerry Ever” and for good reason.  The design and speed of this Berry looks nearly perfect.  The top executives from both AT&T and RIM are present and onstage to announce the Torch 9800′s official launch and the launch and rollout of BlackBerry 6.  The biggest features RIM touted for this conference are the Universal Search, Inbox integration of all social networks and RSS, the entirely new and rich multimedia features, and the WebKit browsing experience.

10:17 - One thing RIM keeps bringing up is the “fresh but familiar” principle.  They attempted to keep the BlackBerry Torch easy to use by keeping the keyboard and trackpad but making it more approachable by the consumer with the touchscreen.  They wanted to refresh the features that BlackBerry has to make them more powerful and easy to use.

10:25 – A walkthrough of some media apps.  The new photo album application allows you to separate photos by event and uses geotagging to seperate by location.  The music application features wireless sync and features a rich new interface.

10:28 – Social integration is a big talking point.  All of your social networks and RSS feeds are included in the Social Feeds app.  Here you can view a live stream from your social networks and if you click an update it opens directly in its respective application.

10:34 -  Universal Search allows you to type anything you want to find right on the homescreen and then select a service to search with.  You can search in the browser, app world, or in the media applications.

10:38 – RIM talks about the “web application development platform.”  Its a new way for developers to create apps.  It was previously being called the “Widget” but now web apps.  You will be able to build apps as a webpage instead of building a Java app.

10:41 – Applications will be huge for BlackBerry 6.  All applications that run on OS 5.0 will run on BlackBerry 6.  BlackBerry 6 will have a more vast selection of API’s for developers to implement into their apps.

10:48 – The BlackBerry Torch goes on sale August 12th.  It will be available for $199 on a two-year contract.  The monoliths in the AT&T stores that we have been seeing the past few days will be launching the Torch in-store.  Data pricing and voice plans will be the standard AT&T plans.

Keep checking TheBerryFix.com throughout the day today and over the next week as we bring you more coverage of the the BlackBerry 6 and BlackBerry Torch 9800 launch.

On the morning of the BlackBerry Torch and BlackBerry 6 launch the FCC has granted the BlackBerry RCY71UW approval. Now there is no talk of the name BlackBerry Torch 9800 but theres no way you can mistak this wireframe photo for some other BlackBerry. This FCC approval comes just in time for the BlackBerry and AT&T press event being held in NYC. Who’s crazy excited for the 9800? I for sure am and i can’t wait to get my hands on that device.

Just got my BlackBerry Bold 9650 from Sprint, and in true BerryFix fashion I filmed the unboxing. The 9650 is a nice upgrade from the Tour but not sure if it really deserved the Bold branding, I guess I’ll have to give it a run for its money and see if it will keep up with me.

Bell BlackBerry Curve 9300 Color Choices and Pricing Leaked

Ask and you shall receive. The Team over at MobileSyrup have gotten their hands on the pricing for the new BlackBerry Curve 9300 set to reales on Bell mobility and Telus in August. We don’t have pricing on the Telus handsets but they should be close if not identical to Bell’s pricing. If your looking to get the 9300 on Bell be prepared to jump on to a 36 month contract and pay $49.99, not a bad price but those three year contracts are killer when most contracts in other countries are 24 month. Anyone excited for the new Curve? or is everyone just waiting for the 9800?

The team at Driphter.com has gotten a pre-release BlackBerry Bold 9780. They have had some hands on time with the device and have just posted a video walkthrough of BlackBerry 6 running on the 9780.  We now have confirmed proof that BlackBerry 6 runs smoothly on non-touch devices but still no proof of the 512MB memory requirement.  Check out the video after the break.

RIM Registers BlackPad.com Domain Name – BlackBerry Tablet Around the Corner?

posted by Zach Gilbert at on Jul 28, 2010 | Leave a comment

Screen shot 2010 07 28 at 9.57.57 PM RIM Registers BlackPad.com Domain Name BlackBerry Tablet Around the Corner?

With all the talk of the BlackBerry 9800 we have all seem to have forgotten about the BlackBerry tablet rumored as “BlackPad”. When a company thinks of a product it isn’t uncommon for them to register a domain name for it, they do this as a way of protecting their assets, so it isn’t a 100% that the BlackBerry tablet will launch with that name. When we received word that RIM had registered BlackPad.com everyone at TheBerryFix.com had a huge grin on their faces because we now know it’s was only time until we see the finished product. What does everyone think of the name BlackPad? I’m not to sure if it fits, but then again I wasn’t a fan of the name Torch….but its grown on me.

Curve 3G coming to Vodafone BlackBerry Curve 9300 Also Coming To Vodafone UK

The BlackBerry Curve 9300 is coming and it’s making sure that we know that.  Another photo has come in from an employee at Vodafone UK showing their internal approvals list.  This list shows the Curve 9300 as being approved on 7/16/2010 and launching with OS 5.0.0.832. There is no indication of a release date here, but assuming they stick with the release dates of the Canadian carriers, we should see this bad boy launching in Q3.  Are you getting excited about the 3G Curve or are you waiting for the 9800 or even the clamshell?

More information has come in on the new Curve 3G.  On a Rogers employee website we can see that the Curve 9300 will be launching in Q3.  The listing also shows that the Curve 9300 will be featured in an exclusive color on Rogers.  CrackBerry is saying that the colors will be grey and violet.  Since we are beginning to see so much information on the Curve 3G, we should be seeing a launch soon. It’s looking like we will be seeing an August launch, but as of right now, this is just a rumor.

BlackBerry Storm 3 Makes It’s First Appearance In An Employee Training Presentation?

BlackBerry Storm 3 Employee Training BlackBerry Storm 3 Makes Its First Appearance In An Employee Training Presentation?

The guys over at Engadget have gotten a photo from an unnamed source.  In this photo we see a slide from a presentation that prominently features the statement “Strictly Confidential” in the upper right corner.  The title of this slide is “Odin Refresh.”  Odin is the Storm 2′s original code name and from the looks of things it is also the current codename for the Storm 3.  Some of the features touted on this slide include:

  • BlackBerry 6
  • Webkit Browser
  • 512 MB flash memory
  • Up to 32 GB SD card
  • 5 MP camera w/ new camera interface
  • World Phone (GSM and CDMA)
  • 802.11n WiFi
  • 3G Mobile Hotspot – Coming Soon

The slide also mentions that specifications are subject to change and there is a final bullet point on the slide that says “mber.”  This most likely means that the device will be launching in a month ending in -ember.  This leaves the possibility of September, November, and December.  Since the original storm launched in November and the Storm 2 in October, all three of these months seem plausible for a Storm 3 launch.  We should begin to see more Storm 3 information in the coming weeks and we will be seeing BlackBerry 6 launch very soon.  Keep it here at TheBerryFix.com for all the latest in BlackBerry.

Telus and Bell Mobility Both Move The BlackBerry Tour 9630 to End-of-Life (EOL)

Tour eol 582x1024 Telus and Bell Mobility Both Move The BlackBerry Tour 9630 to End of Life (EOL)

Rumor’s have been circulating that both Telus and Bell would be moving the BlackBerry Tour to end-of-life, and the rumor’s are true. Today we have received confirmation from a source inside both Bell mobility and telus that the Tour 9630 is a end-of-life device, meaning they will work through remaining inventory but will not be ordering anymore from RIM. Now what does this mean? well honestly we are not quite sure usually an older BlackBerry will go EOL for a new device to take its place, so could it be the 9800 on Telus soon ? I guess we shall just wait and see.

BlackBerry 9670 Gets Some Screen Time….Again

Screen shot 2010 07 07 at 12.02.42 AM BlackBerry 9670 Gets Some Screen Time....Again

looks like Salomondrin is on the lose. Today he dropped a video on the unreleased BlackBerry Curve 9300 from T-Mobile, and now were looking at the 9670 clam shell. Since day one I haven’t been a fan of the clam shell design from RIM HQ but I defiantly feel that there is a market for a flip phone, just not sure how big. Nothing really new is shown seeing it’s old hardware and there is a newer flip with 5mp and OS 6 floating around, but do we really need a reason to stare into the light? Take a look at the video after the break is a clam shell phone is your thing.
