RIM Shows Off BlackBerry 6′s New Homescreen Features
11:54 am on Jul 27, 2010 | Leave a comment

Today RIM posted in the official BlackBerry blog, Inside BlackBerry, an awesome article about the homescreen and its features in the upcoming BlackBerry 6 operating system. The article, entitled “Inside BlackBerry 6: Home Screen Evolution,” walks through how the team designed the homescreen and came up with the new look and functionality. One of the first differences is the 5 different homescreens that you can swipe between. Frequent, Favorites, Media, All, and Downloads are all the homescreen titles and each screen will be fully customizable with the exception of the frequent tab, which will show your most frequently used apps and features. RIM has implemented a new notification area button that will show a preview of all unread messages and calendar entries when clicked. The universal search feature is coming to the homescreen and will allow you to search every bit of content on your phone right from the homescreen. These are just a few of the awesome new features in RIM’s new OS. To view the full article and see all the screenshots, click the following link.

GizmoFusion has posted that a reliable source of theirs has informed them that Verizon has been testing BlackBerry 6 on the Storm 2 9550. They go on to say that Verizon has discontinued testing because of performance issues due to BlackBerry 6 requiring greater than 256MB of RAM. Keep in mind that this is just a rumor and we are passing it along to you as such. We had previously heard that the Storm 2, Bold 9650, and Bold 9700 would all be receiving BlackBerry 6, but that remains a rumor as well. Keep it here at TheBerryFix.com as we bring you all the latest on BlackBerry 6.

The Inside BlackBerry Blog Previews BlackBerry 6′s Media Capabilities
8:46 pm on Jul 20, 2010 | Leave a comment

Today the guys over at RIM’s official Inside BlackBerry Blog posted a short walkthrough of some of the media features in the new BlackBerry 6 OS that will be launching soon. Inside BlackBerry author, Vikram, walks us through all the changes to all the media based interfaces in BlackBerry 6. The most exciting changes, in my opinion, come in the camera and Music player apps. The camera application has been completely redesigned and upgraded with features to make the BlackBerry camera a top-rate mobile photographing machine. The media player features a simplified design with a cover-flow style control. All the media features in BlackBerry 6 promise to be more advanced than anything we have seen before on BlackBerry while still maintaining that ease of use we love from our Berrys. You can check out the full media walkthrough over at the Inside BlackBerry blog and be sure to let us know what you are thinking of BlackBerry 6 in the comments.

RIM Teases BlackBerry 6 On Official BlackBerry Twitter Page
4:15 pm on Jul 19, 2010 | Leave a comment

RIM started the hype for BlackBerry 6 a few months back with the release of the first BB6 preview video. Since then they have continued to hint at the BB6 release and released another preview video last week. Today RIM stepped up the hype again by tweeting about BB6 from the Official BlackBerry Twitter Account. The tweet touted the new universal search feature in BlackBerry 6. The tweet also features the official new Twitter hashtag, #BB6iscoming. With BB6 set for release in Q3 and RIM tweeting that it is coming, one can only assume we will be seeing it released in the next month or so. Many sources say late August. Only time will tell.

In the final video post of the night, Salomondrin posted a test of the New BlackBerry webkit browser versus the current BlackBerry browser that is the standard at the moment. The video walks through 3 of the standard browser tests including the Acid3 test. After the tests are complete the new webkit browser is shown visiting a number of full websites. It looks amazing and very quick. After the break you can view the video and some screenshots of the iPhone 4 and an Incredible running the same 3 tests.

In another 9800 BlackBerry 6 video walkthrough, Salomondrin walks us through all the media playing features in BlackBerry OS 6. The new media player looks amazing and extremely fast. Check out the video after the break.

Salomondrin has taken more videos on the 9800. In this one he walks us through the entire OS. This OS version is 6.0.0.100 and runs amazingly. It really looks like the videos that RIM has put out to preview BlackBerry 6. We see the majority of the menus, all the keyboards, and get a good look at the pop-up menu feature. Check out this video after the break for a full overview of what’s to come in BlackBerry 6.

BlackBerry 6 Previewed Again By RIM, Set for Summer Release
2:19 pm on Jul 12, 2010 | Leave a comment

Very exciting morning for everyone in BlackBerry! The Official RIM Blog, Inside BlackBerry, has posted a teaser video for the upcoming BlackBerry 6 operating system. From the looks of things, BlackBerry 6 is going to be amazing! One of the first things I noticed was the social feed integration. Just one click on the notification bar brings up all your information; messages, Facebook, Twitter, your calendar. All your most recent updates right there at your fingertips. Universal search is another amazing feature. You just tap the magnifying glass and your BlackBerry searches as you type. The video also shows a peek at the webkit browser, media player, and RSS reader. All of this looks amazing and seems like a dream come true! I know I can’t wait to check this new OS out on a Berry and get a good look at the future of BlackBerry. One more tidbit before we close. The blog post also makes mention that BlackBerry 6 will be coming “this summer.” This is very exciting news and means that we should see BlackBerry 6 in the next 2 months. Check the video after the break.
