Latest BlackBerry Apps

Some nice Tuesday evening news straight from Waterloo, regarding the tools that are required by all BlackBerry application developers. The news comes just weeks before WES in Orlando, but if were getting great news before the conference just think what could come after. RIM is releasing enhanced Java and Web Development tools to developers that will enable them to make more compelling and creative applications for the BlackBerry platform. Grab the press release after the break for a full scope of what’s happening. Oh one last thing GO SUPER APPS!

Today’s app is BerryWeather 2.0. BerryWeather is a weather app that can be made as simple or complex as you want. The app is fully customizable and looks just beautiful. BW displays the weather with large and bright pictures and text. The app has an integrated weather radar feature and it also features weather alerts that can be pushed to the message inbox. BerryWeather is one of my most used and favorite apps and I know you will love it once you give it a try. The app is available for $9.95 in the MobiHand store and there is also a free trial available. BerryWeather is compatible with almost every Blackberry device and has both 4.7 and 5.0 support.

With all the hype over an official Twitter for Blackberry from RIM to be releasing today, did anyone think it would really happen? The pilot period for the first version of T4BB ended today and RIM has not delivered an official; however, a replacement has been leaked online. The new version is number 1.0.0.37 and has some much needed improvements on the previous version. The biggest improvement comes in terms of speed. The app loads, updates, and scrolls much smoother and faster. This new version has the pilot date ending on June 30th, so we’ll have to wait for word on whether this will be the release date. Thanks to @BBTweeps for the leak and hosting.

Twitter For BlackBerry Not Being Released On March 31st?
4:11 pm on Mar 29, 2010 | Leave a comment

Last week Kevin from Crackberry.com brought the BlackBerry world some much wanted information on a release date on the official Twitter for BlackBerry application. Well often release dates get changed, and that holds true for the Twitter application.
After the announcement from a CTIA BlackBerry rep that the official Twitter app would launch on March 31st Rim re-leased this statement.
“The March 31st launch date for the public beta of Twitter was prematurely shared at CTIA. The application will not leave its current limited beta in March. As of right now, the launch date hasn’t been decided and the team is working to make sure the next release is feature-rich and has a great user experience before opening the app to everyone.”
So when will this app be released? Were not to sure but when they take more time to work on an app that means they have more time to make it the application that everyone hopes it to be.

Pretty much one of my favorite apps on my BlackBerry is Viigo, reason being is because Viigo brings all the worlds news, weather, and even podcasts straight your BlackBerry. So when I heard that Research In Motion (RIM) acquired Canadian startup Viigo I was optimistic to hear what more RIM will be bringing to this app.
“Viigo is excited to announce that our company is now part of Research In Motion (RIM).
Our team has joined RIM’s global organization and will continue to bring our expertise in BlackBerry® application development and real-time content delivery to the BlackBerry platform. The Viigo for BlackBerry app will also continue to be available for download through BlackBerry App World™.
I’d like to personally thank the deal teams on both sides for their hard work and dedication over the past few months in bringing this transaction to a close.
To the Viigo Team – a very special thanks to all of you for helping to build such an exciting product, and a wonderful company. We’ve arrived at this point today because of you.”
It seems that the Viigo team are quite excited, but what do Viigo users think? Good or bad news? let us know.

In my mind Slacker Radio is quickly becoming one of the most updated BlackBerry application out there, and that’s a good thing. Now before we get emails saying “Zach how is that good?!” The reason I say this is because it shows that the developers are listen to their users feed back and making the application the best it can be. So grab Slacker Radio from BlackBerry App World or the Slacker Radio website.

Google has updated their Google Voice app to version 0.1.7. There doesn’t appear to be any changes to this version. Just some housekeeping issues on Google’s end. If you haven’t yet tried out Google Voice, you should. Its a great way to keep all of your phone numbers and messages organized.
