BBM Channel Signup Now Available in the BlackBerry Beta Zone

You’ve seen that BlackBerry has introduced a huge, new feature for BBM today at BlackBerry Live 2013, BBM Channels. Now you’re wondering how you can sign up for this new service. Well, all you have to do to get BBM Channels is sign up for it in the BlackBerry Beta Zone. BBM Channels works on both legacy BlackBerry OS devices and BlackBerry 10 devices. Signing up will give you access to the Beta version of BBM Channels through the Beta Zone, then you can upgrade to the full version when it officially launches later this year. This is something we didn’t see coming! But BlackBerry is about to take on Twitter and Facebook with BBM Channels. BBM Channels is a place for brands and people to connect, and interact. A place for you to feel more involved. TheBerryFix.com will be launching our own BBM Channel in the coming days, so stay tuned.

BBM Goes Cross-Platform: Coming to iOS and Android This Summer

BlackBerry has finally heard the cries of BBM fans and is answering. BBM is officially going cross-platform this summer. BBM will be available on iOS and Android devices as a free application beginning this summer. The update will work on iOS 6 and above and Android versions Ice Cream Sandwich and above. BBM cross-platform will initially be messages-only and the rest of BBM services will roll out throughout the year. The initial features will include:
- The immediacy of BBM chats
- Multi-person chats
- Voice note sharing
- BlackBerry Groups, where BBM users are able to set up groups of up to 30 people and share calendar, photos, files and more

Wikitude Places beta is the first preliminary release of the next generation of Wikitude on BlackBerry’s new BB10 platform. Macadamian Accelerates BlackBerry® 10 App Development Pace by 85%
Gatineau, QC. (May 13, 2013) – Macadamian has increased its rate of BlackBerry® 10 app development by 85 per cent to keep pace with accelerating customer demand. The user-experience-design and software-development firm has averaged about one new app every two weeks since the launch of the BlackBerry® Z10 smartphone on January 30, 2013. The Maxim app for BlackBerry® 10 is among Macadamian’s latest design and development credits.

Twitter and LinkedIn Updated for BlackBerry 10 Devices

Today, BlackBerry has released updates to both the native Twitter and LinkedIn applications for BlackBerry 10. Both updates bring some new enhancements and features to the apps, plus speed and performance enhancements. Here’s what’s new in each update, click the app name for the link to download the update for free in BlackBerry World.
- Enjoy more content with Universal Search – Twitter 10.0.3/10.1.3 allows you to see more content when you’re searching. You’ll be able to view related profiles, tweets and top tweets, photos and relevant searches all on one page.
- Always Fresh Content – The latest Twitter update ensures all of your content is always fresh and up to date. Automatic caching gives you the current information at your fingertips without having to manually refresh your tabs.

- Finding Your Contacts – Quickly make connections by importing and inviting your current contacts from your personal address book through the ‘Add Connections’ wizard.

RBC and Bell to Launch New Mobile Payments Solution on BlackBerry

RBC and Bell have teamed up to bring a new mobile payments solution to market. This new service will harness the security and power of BlackBerry, along with various other Android devices, to allow users to make credit and debit payments directly from their smartphones. The BlackBerry devices included on the service at launch will include the Z10, Q10, Bold 9900, Bold 9790 or Curve 9360. The service will be utilize NFC for making payments. The BlackBerry Q10 has officially launched, and with it comes the launch of a major app for BlackBerry 10, Skype. BlackBerry has worked hard and spent a lot of cash to bring Skype to the platform, and it’s finally here. The current version of Skype only works on BlackBerry OS 10.1 devices, so that means only the Q10, for now. The OS 10.1 update for the Z10 will be available for those users in the coming weeks. Here is some information on the new Skype app for BlackBerry 10:
- Free face to face video and voice calls
- Instant messages
- low cost voice calls and text messages to landlines and mobiles over WiFi® or wireless network connections.

The BlackBerry 10.1 OS update includes support for the physical keyboard and display on the BlackBerry Q10. There are also enhancements for the Hub, Camera, Phone, Calendar and Notifications, as well as support for additional IT policies and controls for customers connected to BlackBerry Enterprise Service 10.

Facebook for BlackBerry Smartphones Update Now Available

BlackBerry has just announced an update to Facebook for BlackBerry Smartphones. The new version is 4.0, and it is available for Smartphones running OS 5.0 and above. The big changes in this update include:
- Better navigation – Facebook 4.0 provides a new navigation list that allows you to quickly access messages, chat, friend requests and notifications.
- Enhanced photo experience – You now have more options with the Facebook 4.0 update giving you a richer photo experience. Enjoy full screen photo browsing, add or view tags, and instantly Comment and Like.
- Quicker access to updates – Facebook 4.0 gives you faster content updates with a “pull down to refresh” option so you can check for the latest “News Feed” posts, “Wall” posts, “Messages”, “Events” and “Nearby” pages.

BlackBerry 10 App Wednesday Featuring the BlackBerry Q10 and Skype

With the BlackBerry Q10 launching next week, the focus of this week’s BlackBerry 10 App Wednesday is going to be exclusively on apps that will be ready for that device at launch. It’ll have all the native BlackBerry apps like BBM and Email, plus all the great native BB10 apps like Twitter and Facebook. Also, Skype for BlackBerry 10 will be available on the Q10 from launch. ATP Tour, Cut the Rope and Viber are all three coming to both the Q10 and Z10 in the next few weeks. Keep in mind that even though all these apps are available on the Q10, most are already currently available on the Z10, also.
