So you have both a BlackBerry Smartphone and a BlackBerry PlayBook and you’ve been hearing all this buzz about BlackBerry Bridge. Well, in today’s BlackBerry School Lesson, I’ll walk you through the set-up process to pair your Smartphone and PlayBook. Then you can use all the great Bridge features like BBM, Email, and Remote. Follow me past the break for the full lesson.
Preparing the PlayBook for Bridging

First, you’ll open up the setting menu by tapping the gear in the upper right-hand corner of the PlayBook homescreen. Then, you’ll tap on “BlackBerry Bridge” in the menu on the left. You’ll then be at the screen shown above. If you’re presented with a message that Bluetooth needs to be turned on, just tap “Turn On” and you’ll be taken to the screen above. You PlayBook is now ready for Bridging
Preparing your BlackBerry Smartphone for Bridging

First, you’ll need to make sure you have BlackBerry Bridge installed on your phone. The icon you’ll be looking for is highlighted in the screen shot above. If you don’t have it installed, CLICK HERE to install before continuing. Once you find the installed icon for BlackBerry Bridge, click on it to open the application.

Inside the Bridge application, you’ll click the box in the upper right-hand corner and set Bridge to “On.” This will then activate BlackBerry Bridge on your Smartphone. If you have Bluetooth already turned on, head to the next section to Bridge your devices. If not, click “Turn On Bluetooth” and Bridge will then be ready to pair.
The 1st Time Bridging Process

You can start the Bridge process from either your PlayBook or Smartphone. I’ll be walking you through the process by starting it on the PlayBook. First, make sure you have completed the two sections above and your devices are ready for Bridging. Then, tap the setup button, seen in the image above.

This will ask you to enter a new name, or accept the current name, for your PlayBook. Do whichever you want and tap Next.

You’ll then be presented with the above screen. Since you already have Bridge installed and ready to go on your Smartphone, tap “Continue.”
You will now pair the two devices following the on-screen instructions.
- Note: Make sure that when you use the camera on your phone to scan the barcode, you line the red square up with the barcode.
Once you complete these on-screen instructions, BlackBerry Bridge is active between your PlayBook and Smartphone. You can now use all the great features of BlackBerry Bridge. Look for more BlackBerry Bridge tutorials and videos in the coming weeks here at TheBerryFix.com
