RIM announced this morning that all BlackBerry 10 Dev Alpha devices would be receiving a huge update to their OS today. That update is now available and, as promised, it is a huge release. The update brings tons of new features to developers and, for the first time ever, brings the BlackBerry 10 User Interface to users outside of RIM. The update adds in many of the native BlackBerry 10 apps and brings previews of all the new gestures in the upcoming OS. The new additions include:
- BlackBerry Messenger (BBM)
- BlackBerry App World storefront (purchases are disabled)
- Browser
- Calendar
- Camera
- Contacts
- Games
- Home screen
- Lock screen
- Out of the box experience
- Settings
This is a huge step for RIM and it does two big things for the company. First, it reaffirms their commitment to developers. Second, it proves to the doubting world that BlackBerry 10 is real and is coming soon. If you have a Dev Alpha you’re definitely going to want to update to this newest OS release.
