For those that blog, this is an especially relevant update. WordPress for the BlackBerry PlayBook has been updated this morning to v2.1. Since PlayBook apps don’t yet have change logs enabled, we’re not exactly sure what has changed or been added in this release. Since it has made the jump from 2.0 to 2.1, we can assume there are some significant new features or fixes in this release. If you’re a PlayBook WordPress user, grab the update form the link below and let us know what you find.

Taking a Look at the BlackBerry 10 Dev Alpha Developer Device
2:59 pm on May 1, 2012 | Leave a comment

As we all know by now, RIM is giving out a limited number of BlackBerry 10 Dev Alpha Developer phones to attendees of the BlackBerry 10 JAM this week. We’ve seen tons of photos of the device in the past few days, so now we’re going to take a look at the actual device specs and content.
The Dev Alpha looks exactly like a mini-PlayBook tablet. It has the same feel as the PlayBook but with a slightly different configuration. The Dev Alpha’s cameras have been shifted so that the device functions primarily in portrait mode. The device is running the core OS of BlackBerry 10, meaning the speed, functionality, and usability of BlackBerry 10 is all there. The one thing you’ll notice; however, is that the Dev Alpha OS doesn’t look like what we saw Thorsten Heins present at the keynote. That’s because this unit is running BlackBerry 10 skinned over with the PlayBook UI. Head past the break for more on the Dev Alpha, including the full specs.

The team at Kisai Labs has updated their popular Twitter app, Blaq for the BlackBerry PlayBook, to v1.8. This new version addresses some common issues while also adding some new features. As usual with Blaq updates, the change log is massive! The biggest new feature that they have added in this release is the threaded messages view. This allows you to see your Twitter conversations in an easy-to-read, threaded format. You can view the full change log for this update past the break. If you want to download Blaq for your PlayBook, it’ll run you $1.99 and can be had at the link below.

BlackBerry 10 Dev Alpha Device Shows it’s BlackBerry Logo!
10:58 pm on Apr 27, 2012 | Leave a comment

What have we here? Could this really be the BlackBerry 10 Dev Alpha device that attendees of the BlackBerry 10 Jam next week will be receiving? From what we know and what we’ve heard, the answer is looking like a definite YES. We know that the festivities are heating up down in Orlando, and though the actual event doesn’t start till next week, many devs are already there.
The photos of this device, which can be seen above and past the break, show exactly what we have been hearing about BlackBerry 01 devices. It looks like a miniature PlayBook with the same button scheme and a slightly different camera layout. This is NOT a device that will be going on sale, but developers will have them and start making awesome applications on them. The actual device launching later this year will most likely resemble this, but with more embellishments. We’ll be bringing you all the BlackBerry World and Jam action, so keep it here at TheBerryFix. Be sure to check the other photos of this device past the break.

- Updated message notification support with BlackBerry Inbox integration
- Improved GPS logic
- NFC support for OS 7.1 devices
These are some nice improvements and will definitely make checking your Foursquare messages easier. As we see NFC technology continue to propagate throughout the world, this feature will be awesome for checkins, just tap and you’re in. Grab the free update in App World at the link below.

A new photo collage has hit the internet today and it claims to show the packaging and design of the forst BlackBerry 10 device. As we know, the device is codenamed the “London” and we have seen this same device image leaked before. This image shows the box for the London from multiple angles. While this could be a legitimate box, I’m betting we don’t see the device ship in this come October-November of this year. Even more likely, this could be the BlackBerry 10 Dev Alpha device that RIM plans to hand out to developers at the BlackBerry 10 Jam. Only time will tell. Maybe we’ll know next week, or maybe not till late this year, who really knows with RIM these days?

I’m sure everyone is aware of the contest that we held for a free trip to BlackBerry World 2012. The contest closed late last week and a winner was chosen. The winner has been verified and claimed their prize, so now I’m announcing that winner to the world. The BerryFix reader that will be attending BlackBerry World 2012 on us and RIM is:
Mranu
He wants to attend the conference because RIM is going to be making some big announcements there and he wants to get the news hot off the presses. Congratulations to our winner, and remember, if you didn’t win this one we will be having more contests in the future.

RIM has updated another core application, Facebook for BlackBerry, today. This update brings the official version of Facebook to 3.0.0.17 and it brings along the following improvements:
- Fixed an error preventing some users without WiFi from logging into the app
- Fixed a freezing issue that some users encountered when becoming BBM connected
So, as you can tell from the change log, it’s not a huge update but it does fix some issues that could be causing big problems. You can grab the update at the link below or directly from App World.

Last week we told you about the plan for RIM to split the Beta Zone into consumer and business portions. While the split hasn’t officially happened yet, the Beta Zone has gotten a full redesign with some new features to entice users to sign up. The Beta Zone redesign brings some of the following new features:
- Faster downloads
- New layout
- More programs
- More features
- An improved mobile experience
In addition to these changes, the new BlackBerry Beta Zone offers a member count, some ideas from Beta Zone members that have been implemented, and some comments from Beta Zone members. Whether you’re already a member or it’ll be your first time, hit the link below to check out the fully redesigned Beta Zone.
