This is great news for those of us with BlackBerrys that are looking to trade up or anyone looking to switch to BlackBerry for another device. Verizon is accepting most models for trade in including the iPhone 4, Droids, EVOs, and almost all BlackBerry models. Just over a week ago the song “Ping me Baby” from Riz hit the web and just went crazy. With thousands of downloads as a ring tone and thousands of views on you tube, “Ping me Baby” is one of the most successful BlackBerry theme songs out there. With all those views and downloads of this song its really no wonder why RIM decided to bring them out to perform their hit song at the BlackBerry Devcon party. Riz really took the crowd by surprise and kicked of the evening’s events with a bang. I know most of you couldn’t make it to the event, but we are here to help you out, take a look at the full video in HD!

Kobo was on stage at the keynote at DevCon 2010 debuting their social reading app using the BBM Social SDK. Their new application leverages the social aspects of BBM with their ebook reader to create a social reading application for BlackBerry. Think of it as a BlackBerry book club of sorts. You read a good book you found on Kobo. You BBM your friend a page from the book and they get it and send it to their friend. The new application will allow you to both read ebooks on your BlackBerry and rate and review them for your friends to see. Check out the full press release from Kobo after the break.

QNX OS Slated To Replace BlackBerry OS Confirmed By RIM’s VP
3:01 pm on Sep 28, 2010 | Leave a comment

This morning a VP at RIM confirmed that the QNX based OS on the BlackBerry PlayBook tablet will eventually be replacing the current BlackBerry OS architecture. There was no time frame given nor were there any other details. Moving the BlackBerry to the QNX OS seems like a logical transition. The Java structure of BlackBerry OS is quite outdated and difficult to work with. The new QNX OS is based on common standards such as HTML, CSS, java, and features support for important processing engines such as HTML5, Flash, and OpenGL. Some of these are available on the current BlackBerry OS but not in full. The new features and ease of development for a QNX OS would help RIM drive the BlackBerry even farther into the business and consumer space.
The current rumors are saying that the QNX OS will come after BlackBerry OS 7, with BB7 being a mixture of the old BlackBerry OS architecture with the new QNX OS system. From the looks of the QNX OS BlackBerry users will be very happy in the near future. The features that RIM has built into that OS are mind blowing on a tablet and will be even more amazing when they bring it to us in the BlackBerry smartphone form factor. It will be interesting to see how RIM moves from BlackBerry OS to QNX OS. We should begin to get more details in the coming months. In the meantime, who’s excited for BlackBerry 6 on their new and existing devices?
