RIM Ranked 4th In List Of Top Mobile Handset Manufacturers

IDC, a telecommunications analysis firm, has posted its quarterly review of the top mobile handset manufacturers in the world. Our beloved Blackberry has surpassed Motorola to become the world’s 4th largest manufacturer of mobile handsets. And this category includes manufacture of all mobile handsets, not just smartphones. This fact helps illustrate the rise of the smartphone in the mobile technology market. The Curve 8520 and Bold 9700 were listed as the 2 most popular phones sold by RIM. People always make fun of canadians for over paying for their cellphone and signing up for those instane 3yr contracts. As all this changes while the cellular market in canada booms, Rogers Wireless pumped out an interesting video on cellular statistics and Canadians with cellphones. Take a look as a bunch of cool information will flood the screen.

After yesterdays leaked images of the new BlackBerry Podcast application for BlackBerry 6, RIM was quick to get the application into the Beta zone. Some people are able to see the new app in the beta zone but not all users have been allowed to download it. so far the reviews on the app are quite mixed to be honest, but there’s still a lot of time before it is to launch. Now there really isn’t to much to go on here other than it will have the “cover flow” sytle to the app, but hey its more BlackBerry 6 news, I’ll take it.

WES 2010: Super Apps now Added to the 2010 Developer Challenge

Mike lazaridis has been talking about the BlackBerry “super app” since mobile world congress earlier this year and it doesn’t seem like RIM is going to let anyone forget what a super app is. RIM has officialy announced that they will be adding another category to the 2010 BlackBerry Developer Challenge, they will add super apps to the challenge and will reward the best dev team very well.
